Every video is defined by three numbers: resolution (how many pixels), framerate (how many frames per second), and bitrate (how much data per second). Together they determine what the video looks like and how big the file is. Marketing pushes resolution (4K! 8K!), but the truth is more interesting — and once you understand how the three interact, you'll make much better decisions about shooting, sharing, and compressing video.
Resolution is the pixel dimensions of each frame. Common ones:

More pixels means finer detail — but only if you're viewing on a screen big enough to show them and sitting close enough to see them. On a 6-inch phone screen at arm's length, your eye can't distinguish 1080p from 4K. On a 65-inch TV across the room, you can.
Framerate is how many frames per second (fps) the video shows. Common options:

This is why a 4K YouTube video can look worse than a 1080p Blu-ray — YouTube's 4K is streamed at maybe 20 Mbps, while a Blu-ray's 1080p runs at 35 Mbps. More pixels doesn't help if each pixel is poorly described.
